Time March(es) On….

Skyler & Gabba!

Skyler sits up by himself now!

Sharing the firsts in Prince Skyler’s World is an ongoing process, as everyday there is a new first to share.  As of March 01, 2010 Prince Skyler is sitting up on his own – not for long periods of time mind you, nor is he setting himself into the sitting position, but it is pretty exciting none-the-less.  We have implemented rice into his diet to go along with the oatmeal, apples and butternut squash – he seemed to enjoy this new tingle on his taste-buds more so than any other he has tasted.  I wonder if he will have an insatiable appetite for spinach, as Little Momma once did?

March promises to be an interesting month, as at one point all three of the Big People of The Miller Castle will be out-of-town, though we won’t be going on a family vacation as it should be, we will each take our leave separately.  Little Momma is homesick for her friends in Texas, Grand Poppa has a business meeting in Denver Colorado and I will be spending time with Shadie Girl during her Spring Break at our River House.  I wonder which of us will experience the pangs of separation more, Prince Skyler or me.  I have lived over seven years without my daughter and I have just grown accustomed to having her home with me and of course The Miller Castle is never the same when Poppa is away.  And yes, as you could have guessed, I have also grown rather fond of Little Man; I imagine I will miss his silly smile greatly.  Stay tuned for my end of the month summary.

March 06th, 2010

Skyler and "Sad Little Donkey"!

March 04, 2010: Little Momma has already departed for her adventure in Texas, as she returns to visit her friends from high school during Spring Break.  It has only been thirteen hours since I left her at the airport and I’m already reminded of how very much I missed her for the seven years and five months she was gone.  So far Skyler is showing no signs of knowing she is away, though I am sure this will change once he wakes from his nap.  The doctor told us last week he is too young to suffer from separation anxiety at this point – I am not all together sure I believe him.   Speaking of doctors, today I had to take The Prince in for his first “sick” visit.  Not to worry, he is not ill – rather has a little infection in his eye.  The doctor didn’t seem too concerned as I have experienced this with Lauren, so we were already three steps ahead of what “the doctor ordered”.

March 07, 2010:  The weather is finally warm enough for us to take Skyler outside to play!  Putting his walker on the back porch, Poppa and I watch in amazement for over an hour as he takes in the sites around him.  Trees, wind-chimes, fences, people walking by – bushes, water hoses, voices calling to us over the closed gate.  I wonder what’s going through his mind as he takes in all of these gifts we take for granted each day?  His only experience with the outside world has been us bustling him into our trusty SUV Liza through piles of snow, the grocery store and the mall.  Well, I guess that’s not true – we did take him to Bull Run Park for a picnic in November – though it was chilly out and he remained in his stroller protected by the warm quilt made for him by Great Aunt Laura and sleeping peacefully.  Enjoying the perfect weather on this day, we decide upon a walk.  How many wonderful gifts our Lord has given!  Beautiful blue skies are over-head, birds are beginning to chirp on the branches and neighbors are sitting out in their lawns enjoying this change in the weather.  Prince Skyler takes it all in with wonderment in his eyes.  We stop to touch the trees, to feel the textures of the world around us.  Why didn’t I bring my camera?

That's Mr. Hitchcock to YOU!

Why Yes, I AM The Boss!

March 08, 2010:  I do believe our Little Prince is missing his Little Momma.  He has been so cranky today, for what would seem to be no reason.  He’s clean, he’s fed, I’ve checked his mouth and coddled him.  The only explanation is, he has realized something – someone is missing;  Mommie isn’t here.  Thank God she comes home today!  5:32 PM, Little Momma steps around the corner to find Prince Skyler and me awaiting her return.  I can’t tell you how relieved I am to see her smiling eyes – wait, they are not smiling, they are crying.  Taking Prince Skyler in her arms, the over whelming emotions of seeing her Sweet Baby for the first time in five days takes hold.  It is a happy cry – a good thing – and my own fears are resolved with, “I had a great time Momma, but it’s really good to be home”!  God I missed her; you would think after living without my Punkie Girl for seven years and five months, five short days would be easy breezy!

Our Little Prince seems to be growing by leaps and bounds.  He loves being spoon fed, rocked to sleep and sang to.  Of course it is best if we let Grand Poppa do the singing around The Miller Castle, but Skyler doesn’t seem to mind if Little Momma and/or I chime in.  He’s good for three to four books now, as his attention span continues to grow and Tummy Time doesn’t send him into a fit which sounds as though we are torturing the baby to anyone who may be walking past our home.  We still have no alarm for those messy poppy britches; there’s no way he doesn’t know it’s there!

Grand Poppa's Little Man!

In the Arms of Love!

March 10, 2010: Grand Poppa leaves for Denver Colorado today.  I’m sure Little Man will miss him, as they share laughter each evening when Grand Poppa walks through the door.  I wonder what Skyler thinks about the absence of those who care for him; I wonder if he even realizes what or who is missing from his days.  Little Momma and I have a bit of one on one time during Little Man’s sleeping hours.  It’s great to share in this time with her, as it is such a rarity.

March 12, 2010: Skyler’s eyes light up when Grand Poppa announces his arrival and of course Grand Poppa can’t get enough of his Little Man.  It’s amazing to watch the two of them together, as the love is so evident in their eyes.

I wish I had a picture of Grand Poppa playing the guitar for Prince Skyler while he played in his walker, however, I was other wise engaged upstairs with the house-hold duty of cleaning while he and Little Man shared a bit of quality time.  I am sure it was every bit as enjoyable as Grand Poppa described.

Happy, Happy Birthday Punkie Girl!

My first Birthday with Lauren in eight years - oh how I've missed those smiling eyes!

March 13, 2010: Little Momma turns 19 today; it hardly seems possible as I remember the moment she was born.  I will never forget the love I felt the first time I looked into her eyes, holding her in my arms – though it seems so long ago, it also seems as though it were only yesterday.

The two of us went to see Alice in Wonderland today; amazingly I only slept for twenty minutes of the movie.  I always fall asleep in the movie house and these excursions have been dubbed by my family as my, “twenty dollar nap”.  As usual, Johnny Depp is the bomb!  Following the movie Grand Poppa, Little Man and I take Little Momma out for dinner at The Outback Steakhouse – YUMMY!  We’re all too full for desert, which is okay since there’s a yellow cake with chocolate icing waiting at home; it is Lauren’s favorite.  Raluca stops in for a visit and shares in the rest of our celebration.  All in all it is a good day, though there are a few bittersweet moments as we are all aware I will be making my departure in the morning.

There's nothing like Shadies Smile!

Shadie Girl & Me!

March 14 – 21, 2010: Well it’s time for me to hit the road, or the skies as the case may be since I will be flying to Texas today.  It’s Spring Break again; I look forward to this time with my Shadie Girl each year, as we spend her holiday at our River House.  This visit will be different than any other, as I will be seeing friends I have not seen in over a decade.  Facebook is such a wonderful thing and has brought those who have shared my walk over the years back into my life.  It is an amazing journey and I must admit I am a bit surprised to find it is as though not a moment has passed since the last time I was blessed by their presence in my day.

Little Momma seems to be holding up well as she cares for Prince Skyler for the first time on her own.  Grand Poppa is picking up my slack at the end of the day when he returns from work; they are a great team.  They have implemented Sweet Potato’s  into his diet; they said he is loving this new experience in taste.  Daily pictures are coming my way and I can see Skyler growing before my eyes; by Sunday I am in tears because I am missing the three of them – one more day to go!  It is always bittersweet when I drop Shadie Girl at home, though this time it is much different and I am filled with mixed emotions as I prepare for my departure from Texas.

Jammin' to Grand Poppa's Tunes!

Check out Skyler's Vans - another first for Little Man!

March 20th, 2010: Skyler, Little Momma and Grand Poppa do a bit of BBQ’ing on the back porch and jamming out to Grand Poppa and Little Mommas ITunes.  They are taking turns picking a song of choice.  Though I’m sure Little Momma is completely bored by Grand Poppa’s choice of music, Prince Skyler seems to be enjoying it as he dances in his walker.  Though I hate I missed this first in Skyler’s World, I did have a rather exciting day myself.  Note the Vans on Little Man’s feet – these are a first for him as well.  Little Momma brought them back for him when she returned from her trip to Texas.

Skyler's five months old today!

WOW - your cranium is bigger than mine; what are you?

March 21, 2010:  Prince Skyler turns five months old today!  Grand Poppa and Little Momma tie a balloon to his walker.  I sure hate I missed this expression on his face, but am ever so thankful they sent this picture my way.  He seems to be saying, “What the heck is that?  It’s cranium is bigger than mine”!

Grand Poppa says Little Momma is doing an excellent job taking care of our Little Prince and he is beyond proud of her; of course he also asks every day if I am home yet.  (This is something he asks every time I am away overnight.) Though I was a bit nervous prior to my departure about leaving them alone for a week, I knew she could handle the responsibility and once I was safely in Texas the stress over leaving them had depleted.  Pictures were sent my way daily and I could visibly see the growth spurts he was experiencing.  I can’t believe how much I missed him, how much I missed all three of them.  I am filled with a melancholy feeling each time they flash a picture my way, while giving Thanks to the One I Am for bringing them home – giving Thanks knowing both Little Momma and Little Man will be awaiting my return tomorrow.  I wonder if our Little Prince will recognize me when I walk into The Miller Castle, or if he has already forgotten his biggest fan?

March 22nd, 2010

YAY - Gabba Gabba is HOME!

March 22, 2010: I always enjoy my time in Texas, my time with Shea.  However, there really is no place like The Miller Castle and I am anxious to see The VA Millers.  Lauren meets me at the truck with a big hug; I can’t tell you how great it is to have her home with me where she belongs.  It is so wonderful to be greeted by a smile and a, “I sure did miss you Momma”.  I’m thinking most of all she missed my help with the baby, but I do believe she missed me on other levels as well.  Her eyes are shining and she looks relieved to see me, as though she questioned whether I would ever return.  Skyler is in the foyer, bouncing up and down in his walker when I walk through the door.  His eyes light up with a smile across his face and excited laughter escapes his lips.  I can’t believe how much I missed him and I am overwhelmed with his response to my return.  Yes, it is great to be loved.

"Parachute Time at Gymboree"!

I Love Play Time at Gymboree!

March 27th: Today we started classes at Gymboree!   Skyler is amazed by the other Little People and doesn’t really pay too much attention to us or the activities we are going through.  He crones his neck back, around, up or down depending on the direction the other Little Person is from us, which he is trying so hard to see.  I noticed he did pay attention during “Parachute Play Time” and a hearty giggle escaped his belly as deep laughter took way during our second adventure at Gymboree on March 31st.  Again I find myself wondering what goes on inside his mind.  I wonder if he thought he was the only Little Person in the world; I wonder if he is happy to find he isn’t.

The last week of March finds us getting back into our normal routines.  Having been home during the absence of both Little Momma and Grand Poppa, I can see the difference in our Little Prince when everyone is at The Miller Castle where they belong.  He thrives in our love, laughs at our complete silliness and learns a little something from each of us.

Today is April 1st, 2010.  I do hope you will continue to share in our journey by joining us this month as we learn, grow and share in our walk of life – our view into Skyler’s World.

With Love,

The VA Millers
